Nature Calls
Another weekend looms ahead,
Time for an extra lay in bed.
But today is a time for work,
Something I don’t think we shirk.
I’m trying to avoid the housework though,
It’s a skilled profession and I don’t know
If I’m too old to learn this trade,
At least that’s the excuse that I’ve made
For escaping outside to my greenhouse,
Where I recently met a little brown mouse.
He made me jump, I have to say,
As off down the garden he ran away.
But Tuesday evening I had a shock,
A fox in the kitchen, he seemed to mock
My panic response, as off he fled
Dashing round the back of the shed.
The sparrows are flocking here to feed,
It’s costing us a fortune in birdseed.
A goldfinch drinks from the birdbath,
He splashes about and makes me laugh.
I enjoy our garden’s wild-life,
It really calms my lock-down strife.
If the garden is the new normal,
Then I’m happy to answer nature’s call,
I’m avoiding housework while out there,
If I can’t see the dust then I needn’t care!
